Same year fall college attendance rates of spring Missouri high school graduates
Methodology
2009 Reporting
DESE publishes postsecondary enrollment / graduate follow-up from all Missouri public high schools.
Data are currently based on aggregate surveys of follow-up of spring graduates:
- Entering a 4yr. College/University
- Entering a 2yr. College/University
- Entering a Post-Secondary (Non-college) Institution
- Entering the Work Force
- Entering the Military
- Entering Some Other Field
- Status Unknown
2010
DESE has begun collecting unit-record high school graduation data from public schools that should eventually enable graduate follow-up analysis of public high school graduates into public Missouri colleges and universities.
Numerator: Number of spring high school graduates from Missouri public schools who enroll in Missouri public institutions (EMSAS)(this could be expanded to Independents and out of state with the use of National Student Clearinghouse data)
Denominator: Number of spring high school graduates from Missouri public schools (MOSIS)

Limitations and Issues:
Changes from Previous Version of Methodology
- NCHEMS method dropped because of significant time lag
- NCCBP dropped as imprecise measurement of indicator
Not sure what this shows—perhaps more students are not following the traditional path and waiting a year or two to enroll in college. Is this necessarily bad? Maybe we should consider giving high school graduates from Missouri two or three years after graduation to see whether they enrolled in college? [University of Missouri]
Need definition of “direct educational partnerships” that is concise and to the point. Regardless, this is going to be very difficult to define and collect. Furthermore, how much meaning can you give to the results? The concern is that if it is difficult for institutions to collect and it is hard to assign meaning to the results, should it be an indicator? We may want to consider including non-credit internships in the definitions. [University of Missouri]
Will state licensing agencies release the results to either MDHE or institutions, e.g., CPA exam? What are we going to do about the overlap and/or potential double counting with indicator 1C3? [University of Missouri]
