I see perhaps a series of subquestions like:
Who is this information shared with (students, faculty)?
How is it used to improve programs and courses?
How is this used for student academic improvement?
etc
What Instruments do you use for assessing General Education?
We use CAAP exit exam for
all graduating students.
We use portfolios to assess our specific General Education Goals. These portfolios are scored with specific rubrics to determine if there are gaps in our General Education program.
The information is shared with the Assessment Committee, Faculty Senate and Administrators.
Areas that show below expected performance are noted and faculty and division chairs are tasked with bringing about a strategy for improvement.
Individual faculty are encouraged to add additional course content in the areas which need improvement. Division Chairs and Department Chairs are asked to develop a plan for improvement in needed areas.
Course and curriculum modification will improve student learning in the needed area.
What tools do you use to assess things such as critical thinking, leadership, or other items that are not as easy to measure as content? Those, value-added items, that each institution values in its mission.
